You probably noticed references to the "Star Spangled Banner." and "My Country 'Tis of Thee", but some say the poem also references Tennyson's "The Charge of the Light Brigade": Do you agree?

I don't see much of a resemblance between the two poems. In my opinion, Cummings seems to be mocking the United States in his poem. He says "What could be more beautiful than these heroic happy dead". This seems ironic to me because, honestly, who is ever happy to be dead? He is trying to show that the US promises a lot more in its heroic songs than it provides in real life. The poem by Tennyson seems to be more serious in its description of heroism. I don't get the sense that it is being sarcastic or mocking in any way. This is just my opinion, and I am interested to hear what other people think.

I don't really see any line in "The Charge of the Light Brigade" that is referenced in cummnings' poem so no, I do not agree.
