In Just-- and l(a

Some thoughts on In Just-

An article on the connection between haiku and cummings work, with special attention to 1(a

More on l(a.  Interesting, but only for the truly interested.

If you want to comment, choose a quotation from the text and share your thoughts on it.  This is NOT on the final, but may help increase your overall understanding of cummings and his work.

  1. "However, as we shall see, this 'innocent' world is at the same time a troubled world of deviant sexuality and foreboding." I agree with this quote about the poem. However it is also more that just about innocence and sex. It is about growing up an coming into a time of adulthood. This is because growing up is not about loosing innocence, but rather gaining knowledge about the real world. The poem captures the idea of going into dark side of adulthood, but that is not the only side of adulthood. Teens can be responsible and grown up without experiences viewed as devious. It does take experience to learn, and that is part of the point of being a teen. Cummings captures that in his poetry, and shows that there are two sides of teenage lives, and the change from child innocence, and teen learning.
