ReplyDeleteWhen I attempted to use the link to the Hebrew Dictionary it did not seem to work, but I found another one that should work well for us in the future if we need it: http://www.ancient-hebrew.org/35_home.html
ReplyDeleteSomething interesting I found is that the name Abra means "Mother of many nations". there might be a connection between her and her name since both Cal and Aron have interest in her.
ReplyDeletei had the same conflict as Michelle. When i tried to open it, it seemed to not exist.I tried the website that she reccommended and saw how interesting the Hebrew writing is. it reminds me of the Ancient Greek writing i learned in 6th grade.
ReplyDeleteI found similar information as Dylan. What was most interesting to me was seeing the meanings of Cal's, Aron's and Adam's names; arguably the three most distinctive and important characters in the book.
ReplyDeleteCaleb = heart
Aaron = spear
Adam = man; earth
Coincidence? Probably not. All three names have clear relationships to their personalities. Cal is thought to be evil, but finds himself to be true of heart. Aron turns into something of touchy, dangerous character. Adam is a simple man connected with his land.
Oops ^^ that last one was from me. Forgot to sign it.

I used a different site. I just realized the the names I put in my article were not translated into Hebrew Several were from different languages and civilizations. Will I get points off?
ReplyDeleteI think the name Abra is significant because in Spanish the word "abra" means "opens". In the book, Abra opens up the world of girls to both Cal and Aron. She also influences the boys because she "opens up" the idea that Cathy might be their mother.

When Dylan said that Abra means "mother of many nations", that reminded me of when Aron pretended that Abra was his mother. Maybe her name is hinting that she sort of acts like a mother figure for Aron.
ReplyDeleteI looked up the name Cyrus on a different website and it said that there was a Cyrus II the Great who unified many kingdoms and expanded his power greatly. Maybe its like Adam and Charles's father because he was a powerful man in the government.
